Team Foundation Server 2003 Review

Our Development team consists of about 150 Software Developers, Software Engineers, Testers, Project Managers and Business Analysts.

We use the Agile Software Development Methodology.

We use Team Foundation Server Version Control, Team Build, Project Portal and Item Tracking.

From a development standpoint, we love TFS. It integrates beautifully with Visual Studio.

TFS provides all the functionality we required to support a complex and demanding application.

TFS Requirements

  • Parallel Development

  • Automated Software Build Functionality

  • Project Reporting Capabilities

  • Defect and Issue Tracking

  • Friendly User Interface

  • Administration Ease of Use

I would highly recommend Team Foundation Server to anyone looking for an excellent Software Configuration Management Tool.

    TFS Performance
    by: Tom

    Hi Bunny the Builder,

    I like your name.

We have experienced some slowness in our TFS implementation.

Things like slow check outs and check ins.

We did not follow the Microsoft TFS configuration recommendations. We are using a virtual server to host TFS.

    How is your TFS Performance?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Team Foundation Server 2003 Configuration
    by: Bunny the Builder

    Hi Tom,

We followed the Team Foundation Server recommended server configuration for our size development organization.

We have the TFS app on one server and the TFS and SQL sitting on another server.

We do not have any TFS performance complaints.

We migrated from VSS 6. So, our TFS performance shines in comparison.

I can not imagine trying to run TFS App/Database on a virtual server. Unless you were dedicating the whole server to TFS.

    Good Luck,
    Bunny the Builder
