Content Management SystemsDefinition
Content Management Systems are used to create, edit, administrate and publish website content. Gartner classifies CMS into 4 categories: Enterprise, Web, Shared and E-buisiness Transactional. CMS Processes CMS Processes are the effective management of the content by combining rules, process and workflows in a way that can successfully manage website content.
CMS Categories
This would include corporate portal, document management, media asset management, retrieval, software configuration management, and product data management products.
Web CMS Including web publishing and document management products.
E-business Transactional Including mainly commerce server products.
Shared Content Including business partner and supply chain collaborative content that isn’t transactional.
Gartner's Take on CMS Ability to Execute: This criteria measures an organization’s success at selling and supporting both its ECM products and services from a global perspective. Completeness of Vision: This criteria deals with a company’s potential and helps to separate the vendors who are focused solely on the short-term from the vendors who have a more long-term view of the ECM market.
